In May this year I stepped away from a permanent public service job to find my purpose and start my own business as an Empowerment Coach for parents. Why did I leave the job I had previously loved and a team that had become my close friends?

Because I knew there was more.  I had a desire to help people  which I knew I couldn’t be fulfilled there.  I knew that I wanted to live a life of purpose. Where my life and work are driven by my values. I believe that I was created for a purpose and I wanted to find and embrace my purpose. And I wanted to fulfill my potential to have a real impact on others and make a difference.

I was ready.

I’d had spent the past few years struggling with depression and anxiety.  As a result, I’d done a lot of personal development in the areas of self-love and self-awareness. Consequently, I discovered that I’ve had a history of putting other people first and not honoring myself.

But now I was ready to put myself first. To stop worrying about what was best for everyone else, what would make them happy and commit to giving myself a future that I knew would be far more exciting and fulfilling.

So, how did I do it? How did I get myself to the point where I was ready to own my own dream and start my own business?

Firstly, I accepted:

• myself as worthy – I learnt to love, appreciate and affirm myself.

• my journey as a necessary path to create the person I am today – I learnt that all the experiences that I had viewed as negative had all played their role in shaping me into the person that I am today.

• my dreams as possible – I’ve learnt a lot about mindset over the past few years. One of the biggest keys to unlocking the future you want is first believing that they are possible.

secondly, I made a plan.

I took leave from my job and stared taking action. I set up my business, built a webpage.  Started blogging and using social media (I previously had only joined Facebook to keep in contact with people we had me whilst on holidays and I rarely posted anything). And I started practicing coaching.

As I started to take action, my self-belief grew. With each passing day I feel more and more equipped to step into this role. My confidence in encouraging and empowering others is growing. Furthermore, my dreams are growing. Step by step, day by day I am creating the life of my dreams.

What about you? Is your life shaping up to be everything you hoped? If not, think about what areas you’d like to improve. What is the first thing you would change? Do you know how to go about making the change?

I’m not suggesting that it’s easy to have and do everything you want but I do believe that you should prioritize and chase after the things you desire most.  These are the things that will bring you joy and satisfaction. They will make everything else worthwhile.
