Everything to know if you are over due and why you should not fret

The nine long months of pregnancy are hard enough, being overdue just adds fuel to the already burning fire. Though it could obviously be a stressful situation for the parents, it is nothing to fret about. Since the due date given to you by the doctors is just an estimated guess, you do not need to start worrying if your due date has passed.

A post-term pregnancy or an overdue pregnancy could be the cause of a lot of worry for parents, but an overdue pregnancy could be because of several reasons such as the fact that your due date might have been calculated inaccurately, you are going to have a baby boy, you are overweight, certain genetic predispositions, it is your first pregnancy or because you’ve had an overdue pregnancy before.

Most babies come between the thirty-seventh and the forty-first week of pregnancy.  If forty weeks are over and you find yourself still pregnant, worry not, because only 1 out of every 4 babies is born on the exact due date prescribed to the parents.

Your doctor will tell you that if you are just a few days past the expected date given to you, there is no reason to panic. The arrival date of your newborn baby could be up and down depending from case to case.

In case you cross the 42nd week of pregnancy with no signs of natural labor, the medical professional might perform a physical examination to detect the reason or suggest inducing labor as the risk to your baby increases slightly after the 42nd week of pregnancy.

If you do not want the doctor to induce labor, the medical team can monitor the health of the baby in the womb and keep constant checks on whether everything is alright or not. In case of signs of trouble, you might be advised to consider induction or caesarian.

Being pregnant for nine long months is quite exhausting and you might find yourself on the verge of tears to find yourself pregnant beyond what was asked of you. Though this could be obvious reasons to find yourself alarmed and tired, your doctor will advise you about the next course of action as per need be.

Your womb is a comfortable place for your baby and they might refuse to come out of it, which could be bothersome for you. Luckily, there are ways to nudge the baby to come out. Sexual intercourse is suggested as one of the best natural inducers of labor.

All in all, consult your medical team in case your due date is long past but try not to worry if only a few days are past as it could happen to anyone.
